Something in the Water

Just an observation:
  1. On Friday, Cubs fan favorite Ryan Theriot hit his first career grand slam to beat the Marlins. He had gone 704 plate appearances without a homer; his last (and only of 2008) came a year ago April 15. Saturday, Theriot hit another, a two-run shot in the first, giving him homers in consecutive at-bats.

  2. Fielding Bible poster boy Adam Everett came into Saturday with 37 career home runs in 2576 plate appearances, and had hit a total of four since 2006. He hit a grand slam in the fourth inning today to help the Tigers beat the Indians, his first homer since last August 11 and the second grand slam of his career.

  3. Terrible baseball player Willie Bloomquist hit just his seventh career home run in over 1400 plate appearances Saturday night, a long solo shot to left-center against the Twins. It was his first in 332 plate appearances covering nearly two years. He now has three times as many extra-base hits in 2009, in 43 plate appearances, as he did in 2008 (one, a double) in 192 plate appearances.
